It was a normal day much like any other day. I woke up early and enjoyed a cup of coffee on the patio while watching the warm August sun appear over the eastern side of our acreage. I love this time of day. In total solitude, I can plan the day’s activities and make mental notes on the “to do” list before I sit down to my desk and computer in my office. As I hear the first birds chirping, I know the day has begun.

Just after lunchtime, the telephone rang. It was Tripp Forstner from Magical Farms. I have known Tripp for a very long time and have spoken to him on the telephone hundreds of times. Suffice it to say, we know each other pretty well. My heart began to race as soon as he said “Hello” because I distinctly heard a very different and unusual tone in his voice. When he said, “You won’t believe what I’m going to tell you” I feared the absolute worst. I sat down and drew a deep breath to prepare myself. Our usual conversations center around our co-owned alpacas or competition results so at this point, I am focused for whatever he needs to say. I was not expecting to hear “Quetzal had twins!” but that is exactly what I heard him say. Twins? Did Tripp just say “twins?” What wonderful news! This particular female has given us two incredibly nice males over the years, Jeremiah’s Quatrain and A and A & MFI Quixotic. Now she has given us two beautiful twin female cria!

Today the twins are thriving and doing very well. They both weighed over 10 pounds at birth, which is rare for alpaca twin births. The extra birth-weight was a real blessing since most twins are born very small, giving them far too many challenges to survive. Quetzal’s new twins are healthy, strong babies with a very nice future ahead of them and we could not be happier! Well done Quetzal!
